Abandoned By Bears – ‘Headstorm’

ABB

One might be apt to believe that a band hailing from Sweden would be drawn to Metal or one of its various sub-genres that the country is famous for.  Not so for Malmo’s Abandoned By Bears.

After catching the eye of Word is Bond Management and subsequently signing with Victory Records, the band is set to release their second record for the label on August 24th, 2018.  Entitled Headstorm, the effort is full of pop-punk hooks with the occasional breakdown and growl, perhaps as a nod from Abandoned By Bears to the genres that are famous in their homeland.

The album begins at a frantic pace with its highlight and opener “So Far Gone” and doesn’t let up until the hauntingly ferocious “Greyscale” (heavy on the breakdowns and growls) closes the 11 track collection.

In support of Headstorm, Abandoned By Bears is set to begin a two month trek of the US beginning in Chicago on the album’s release day with support from Light Up The Sky, Boys of Fall, We Were Sharks and Youth Fountain at various points along the way.

ABB 2

All in all, Headstorm is a solid release, a reminder that pop-punk with an edge is a global undertaking.
