The Amity Affliction – ‘Misery’

The Australian Metalcore/Post-Hardcore powerhouse The Amity Affliction is back at it! Following 2016’s This Could Be Heartbreak, the band is set to release their new album, Misery, on August 24th via Roadrunner Records. TAA announced the new album alongside the single “Ivy (Doomsday)” while on the final run of the Vans Warped Tour and “Feels Like I’m Dying” followed shortly after. Misery will be their sixth studio album.

I’ve been a pretty big Amity fan since discovering them at 2013’s Vans Warped Tour, which was shortly after their release of Chasing Ghosts. Chasing Ghosts is, hands down, in my top 3 favorite albums of all time.

Being such a fan, I had high hopes for Misery; and I will be honest, it took me multiple listens to finally put this review into words. This new collection of music takes a different direction than The Amity Affliction has approached in previous albums and I’m interested to see how fans will react. The lyrics are truly amazing, full of power and meaning. Of the 12 songs housed in Misery, my standout track is “The Gifthorse”.
