Sleep On It fans have been waiting for their highly-anticipated debut LP since before they actually announced it. I had the pleasure of listening to the album before its official release, and all I really have to say is WOW! I’ve listened through this album so many times, but I still haven’t been able to pick a favorite song. It gets better with every listen. I thought Sleep On It had outdone themselves with Lost Along the Way but Overexposed proves the best is yet to come.
The album opens with “A New Way Home”, a track that captures your attention from the very first chord. Every song showcases something that everyone can relate to, with lyrics that can resonate with anyone.
One of the most amazing things about this album is that you can tell exactly how much these guys put into it. You can hear the heart and feel the soul. Zech Pluister’s vocals are so distinctive and unique that it makes great songs into something even better. The instrumentation on every track is spot on. TJ Horansky, Jake Marquis, AJ Khah, and Luka Fischman kill it on every song with both instrumental talent and backing vocals.
Although selecting a definitive “favorite” is difficult, the title track, “Overexposed”, easily is one of them. I understand exactly why this is the namesake of the album — it’s all about the band chasing their dreams.
Overexposed is a dynamic album that shows how much Sleep On It has grown as a band. This is easily one of my favorite albums of 2017. Sleep On It is going places — if you haven’t taken a listen yet, you’re missing out!
Catch Sleep On It on tour with Waterparks, As It Is, and Chapel this winter.
