Bursting to life, Hamilton, Ontario quintet Hotknives do not disappoint with their self-titled EP due for release on July 24, 2020. From the aggressive “Standing In My Grave” to the rollercoaster of emotion in “I Want Your Bones,” the band’s debut quickly illustrates their versatility and will no doubt create some traction.
No strangers to the Ontario scene, Hotknives is a supergroup of sorts that includes former members of Gold Finch and Parkside. Perhaps you also saw drummer Simon Hatziioannou behind the kit for Young Culture as they supported Have Mercy recently across the US before the Covid-19 pandemic took hold.
The previous musical experience of Hotknives holds them in good stead as it is clear that their EP is not a rookie effort but displays that the group are already accomplished musicians. There is a raw honesty in the vocals of frontman Zakk Abrams that are visceral and yet poignant simultaneously.
Having already shared the stage with many of Ontario’s up-and-coming acts such as Nightwell and Incase We Crash, Hotknives’ reach will likely expand beyond their home province in short order.
