Growing up on country music, I have a soft spot for the 90s country classics. Dierks Bentley’s Hot Country Knights has filled the nostalgic, two-stepping void in my heart I didn’t even know was there with their new album The K is Silent.
Goofy, tongue-in-cheek, innuendo-filled songs with mullets, stone washed jeans and more neon than this decade permits, Hot Country Knights is a playful collaboration and parody troupe. Deploying pseudonyms, Douglas “Doug” Douglason is none other than Dierks Bentley, Trevor Travis (bass guitar), Marty Ray “Rayro” Roburn (lead guitar), Terotej “Terry” Dvoraczekynski (fiddle), Barry Van Ricky (steel guitar), and Monte Montgomery (percussion) are Bentley’s touring band members.
The band released its debut single “Pick Her Up,” a duet with Travis Tritt, in January 2020. It was accompanied by a music video starring Tiffani Thiessen. Another pre-released single “You Make it Hard” features country music legend Terri Clark, accompanied by a music video featuring the pair. The song is actually very entertaining while being a great song even though it’s full of dick jokes. The combination of Clark and Bentley’s voice work superbly together and the track sounds just like an old classic country ballad.
If you’re at all interested in country and looking for a little comic relief during this strange and uncertain time, give The K is Silent a listen for a hilarious reprieve. With songs like “Moose Knuckle Shuffle,” a parody of Alan Jackson’s “Watermelon Crawl,” you’re sure to crack a smile.
The K is Silent is available on Spotify and Apple Music as of May 1, 2020 and available for purchase from UMG Nashville.
