From the first notes of Erase Me due for release on April 6th, 2018 via Fearless Records, it is clear that Underoath is back, and back with a purpose. Throughout the record Underoath have done things their way, both musically and lyrically without giving in to the unrealistic expectations of anyone who isn’t them, or letting those unrealistic expectations shape their art.
Edging on a decade-and-a-half of grinding it out in the music industry, the band have boldly done things on their terms for their own sakes, and that’s ok. “I didn’t ask you for this / So don’t tell me that I’m to blame” growls lead singer Spencer Chamberlain on “Hold Your Breath”, supported by musicianship that is just as aggressive at some times as it is melodic at others.
While some may struggle with the fact that Underoath no longer fits nicely into a box that certain fans created for them, the band has not let this hold them back. “All of us are finally in that place in our lives where the only thing we care about is inclusion for everybody—for the world” shares drummer Aaron Gillespie. Underoath are firmly in the driver’s seat on Erase Me, and the listener is invited along for the ride.
Don’t miss Underoath on the 2018 “No Fix Tour” starting April 20 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They will be joined by special guests Dance Gavin Dance, Veil Of Maya, and Limbs.
