Let’s start by saying I originally didn’t plan on doing a review for this album. I know of Secrets and have seen them multiple times over the past couple years between opening for bands I went to see or even seeing them at Vans Warped Tour. I was a huge fan of the album Fragile Figures and the Renditions EP but lost track of them after that. I was informed they were coming to the surrounding area on their next headlining tour and I decided to catch up on the band a bit. That’s when I stumbled on “3/17/16” off their upcoming album Secrets that will release on February 23rd of this year.
“3/17/16” caught my attention with its sound and the meaning behind the lyrics. On this date, not only was it Richard Rogers’ (vocals/guitar) birthday but one of the hardest days of his life. Rodgers had just finished a show with Secrets when he was informed that his older sister was in the hospital and shortly after that’s where she would pass away. I have always thought Secrets had amazing lyrics in their songs but the lyrics behind this track truly stuck out to me. If you know me, you will for sure know the number one thing that will draw me to a band is their lyrics. “3/17/16” is a powerful and meaningful song to not only Rodgers but the band itself.

While I love this album as a whole, my favorite song has to be “Fourteen”. It’s about how people endure heartbreak/pain and the effects it has on everyone. This song hits home on so many personal levels and for that reason it’s top of the list for me.
I am extremely grateful to be able to review this album for Secrets. It’s very personal and meaningful and I can’t wait for everyone to hear it! You will probably cry but that’s okay because I did multiple times. I hope you enjoy this album as much as I did and if there is a tour date around you please go and support the bands!
