Album Review: Waterparks — Entertainment

W 1

If you are in the music scene at all, you’ve probably heard of Waterparks. They’re one of the hottest bands right now and they’re taking the world by storm. Their sophomore LP Entertainment drops on Friday, but I had the pleasure of getting an early listen. I thought Double Dare was good, but Entertainment absolutely blew me away.

We’ve all heard the three singles off the album: “Blonde”, “Lucky People,” and “Not Warriors” — but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. From the first verse of “11:11,” I was absolutely enthralled. There’s been a lot of hype around this album, and it deserves every ounce of attention it’s getting.

The band tweeted a few days ago to just sit and listen to the album with no distraction. I did, and I was not disappointed. Entertainment is more than just an album; it’s a story. Waterparks really took this collection to another level, both musically and lyrically.

Entertainment is going to take you on an emotional roller coaster. You’ll feel the entire range of emotions — from happy, to sad, to angry, and beyond. It’s been said that Entertainment is like nothing that Waterparks has produced before. That is probably the most accurate statement I can come up with to describe it.

I say this about a lot of albums, but with Entertainment I really could not choose a favorite song. The entire album is made up of singles, so it’s one of the hardest things to pinpoint one track that impresses me more than the others.

I can’t wait for this album to publicly drop so I can start tweeting lyrics and telling everyone exactly how much I love it. I know it’s only January, but I can already assure you it will be on my 2018 “Album of the Year” list.

Also, when you listen, take the band’s advice: just isolate yourself and listen to the album in order, with no distractions. I promise, you won’t regret it.

Waterparks will on tour in the UK/EU starting March 1 in support of Entertainment. For tickets and more information, click here.
