If home was a feeling, it would be a Vesperteen concert experience.  Each time I go to a show, I’m just amazed by the talent and the fun atmosphere that I’m engulfed in. Despite being only thee hours from Pittsburgh in Columbus, Vesperteen played their first ever show here on Friday, December 8th. This was the first time I didn’t have to drive at least three hours to a show. To say I was only a little excited would be a total lie.

We got to the venue about 20 minutes before doors. Between the cold and the excitement, it was the longest 20 minutes of my life; but nothing compared to the seven hours the people at the front of the line waited. Waiting seven hours in the cold might not have been necessary, but I’m sure it was worth it.

The show was at Stage AE. Stage AE is an extremely unique venue. The venue has a stage that can host shows both indoors and outdoors. It’s maximum capacity is 5,500 with its outdoor stage. In addition, they also have a small club stage in the back of the indoor venue. They close off the area that leads to the main stage to make the capacity of the club stage to be 500 people. This closed off area makes the shows way more personal and intimate. This is the stage the concert was at.

First on the line-up was Amy Guess. It was my first time ever hearing her music and seeing her perform. I didn’t know what to expect, but I loved it! She and her band rocked the stage. The alt rock/pop sound was extremely catchy, and I found myself dancing and getting into the music even though I didn’t know the songs. Definitely check her out!

Next was Bonelang. I saw them open for Vesperteen back in August.  I’ll be honest, I don’t listen to their music a lot, but they have such a great stage presence. Both times I’ve seen them perform they were super chill and entertaining. It’s clear that they are very passionate about what they’re doing, and they have a great way of getting the audience involved. They have a super strong fan base, and I definitely respect that.

Honestly, it’s hard to put a Vesperteen show into words. It was amazing, as always. There was so much passion and energy from both the performers and the audience. Colin, the mind behind Vesperteen, had a great way of including the audience. At one point, he handed bells to someone to play along to a cover of “All I Want for Christmas”. The guys all threw Christmas sweaters on and had an ugly sweater contest with the audience.

Toward the end of the set Vesperteen performed a new, never-before-played song titled “Blue”. It was absolute magic. It might be one of my new favourite songs. Colin said that it was so new that they haven’t even recorded it yet. Hopefully they will do that soon and release it so you can fall in love with it too.

Vesperteen, Bonelang, and Amy Guess are all on tour until December 16th. Check out vesperteenmusic.com for dates and tickets. Keep an eye out for the next time Vesperteen has a show near you!
