American Satan

AS 2
American Satan ft. Andy Biersack

American Satan, featuring a star-studded cast including Black Veil Brides’ Andy Biersack and Asking Alexandria’s Ben Bruce, premiered for a limited time in select theaters across America on October 13, 2017.

The story line follows Johnny Faust (Andy Biersack) and his fictional band, The Relentless, as they travel to Los Angeles in hopes of making it big. Shortly after arriving in L.A., the band makes a deal with mysterious Mr. Capricorn — or in other words, the Devil. Soon, the band finds itself stuck in a whirlwind of sex, drugs, and fame and it seems like there’s no way out. The plot line is full of twists and turns — sometimes it’s hard to follow everything that’s going on, but overall I was impressed.

When I first heard that Andy Biersack was starring in a movie, I was over the moon. I then found out that all the singing would be done by Remington Leith of Palaye Royale and was worried that it wouldn’t feel genuine. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the voice matched what I was imagining in my head.

You can say American Satan is a lot of things, but subtle isn’t one of them. The film portrayed what I think a lot of people see rock music as — “the devil’s music.” Of course it was over the top and exaggerated, but I think that was the point. All of the drugs, profanity, and nudity contributed to painting the picture that American Satan was trying to create.

You see the entire journey of The Relentless as they make it big and eventually run into some problems and fall from grace. Despite all of the disturbing scenarios that occur throughout the film, you can’t help but feel sympathetic toward Johnny and the band, no matter how much they mess up.

Undeniably, there are some things that they could have done better, but overall I think the movie is worth seeing. Andy Biersack and Ben Bruce do an amazing job. If you didn’t know they were musicians going in to the film, you would think they were the next big actors coming onto the scene. I’ll definitely be watching it again and if you have any interest in seeing it, you should hurry to the theater and watch it before its limited run is over.
